Charitable Bequest

A charitable bequest is one of the easiest and most flexible ways that you can leave a gift to the Santa Ana College Foundation that will make a lasting impact.

Benefits of a bequest

  • Receive an estate tax charitable deduction

  • Reduce the burden of taxes on your family

  • Leave a lasting legacy to charity

How a bequest works

A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to family, friends or the Santa Ana College Foundation as part of your estate plan, or you can make a bequest using a beneficiary designation form.

Here are some of the ways to leave a bequest to the Santa Ana College Foundation

  • Include a bequest to the Santa Ana College Foundation in your will or revocable trust

  • Designate the Santa Ana College Foundation as a full, partial or contingent beneficiary of your retirement account (IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or pension)

  • Name the Santa Ana College Foundation as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy

A bequest may be made in several ways

  • Percentage bequest - make a gift of a percentage of your estate

  • Specific bequest - make a gift of a specific dollar amount or a specific asset

  • Residual bequest - make a gift from the balance or residue of your estate

Sample bequest Language:

Unrestricted bequest language:

For an unrestricted gift that allows Santa Ana College to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

"I give to Santa Ana College, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 1530 W 17th St, Santa Ana, CA 92706, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose."

To designate your provision for a particular purpose:

"I give to Santa Ana College, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 1530 W 17th St, Santa Ana, CA 92706, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as Santa Ana College determines that the need exists. If Santa Ana College shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then Santa Ana College may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above."
